You may have heard recent news reports about ‘Contracts for Difference’.
These are part of the Government’s Electricity Market Reform (EMR) and the aim is to further reduce CO2 emissions, with 15% of energy coming from renewables by 2020.
CfD’s are due to begin this year and will replace the Renewables Obligation by 2017. CfD costs will be charged to all electricity suppliers and will apply from April 2015.
These costs will be passed on to the end user and some suppliers have already begun to include CfD as an itemised charge within new contract offers.
